Records, Awards, Hall of Fame...
Three categories of membership have been approved by the GWSF Council.
A. Competitive water skiers
B. Water skiing pioneers
C. Water skiing officials
General Eligibility Requirements
1. Must be U.S. citizen and a resident of the State of Georgia for at least ten(1O)years.
2.Water skiing accomplishments must have occurred during this residency.
3. No member of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee is eligible during his term on the Committee.
4. Generally, a minimum age of 45 is required for all inductees, however, the Selection Committee may elect to waive the minimum requirement under extraordinary circumstances.
Eligibility for Pioneers
1. This category is intended for people whose contributions to the sport
do not fall into the other categories. For example, Ralph Samuelson, if he had been a resident of Georgia, would have been eligible for consideration as a pioneer.
Eligibility for Competitive Skiers
1. The skier must have skied in the U.S. Nationals (or U.S. Open Tournament) at least five years.
2. Nominee may be three, two, or one event skier.
3. The Committee will consider the following factors in voting for competitive skiers:
A. Major factors:
1. World, U.S. Open, National Records
2. Georgia State Records
3. Sportsmanship, character, and integrity
B. Minor factors:
1. Competitive record in Record Capability Tournaments.
2. Competitive record in Georgia State Tournaments.
3. Service as a judge, driver, administrator, scorer, or in the promotion of the sport.
4. Retirement from active competition is not a requirement.
5. Must have been member of Georgia Water Ski Federation during competitive years, unless the competitive period was prior to formation of the GWSF in 1975.
Eligibility for Officials
1. A candidate will be recognized for major contributions to the sport over a considerable number of years.
2. Primary consideration is given to contributions to the sport as an AWSA rated judge, driver, scorer; AWSA national officer; AWSA national committee member; AWSA Board member; Regional or National Director; or Regional EVP.
3. Secondary consideration is given to contributions as Regional councilman; Georgia state officer; local club official; or chief official of major tournament.
4. Additional consideration may be given or tournament chairman of major tournament, tournament announcer, and water skiing writer or promoter.
5. Emphasis shall be on overall contribution to the sport. Candidates shall be judged based on cumulative contributions to the sport.
6. Generally 15 years of service to the sport at local, national, or international levels is required as a minimum for consideration. Length of service alone shall not be a valid reason for consideration into the Hall of Fame.
7. Retirement from active involvement in the sport is neither a requirement for nomination nor is it encouraged.
8. Posthumous awards are permitted.
